THIS BLOG MAY SEEM RANDOM TO YOU AND IN NO WAY DEEP, AND YOU ARE CORRECT. BUT THIS IS JUST TO SHARE WITH YOU THE MOVIE THAT I HAVE HAD PLAYING OVER AND OVER AGAIN FOR A WHILE NOW AND REALLY ENJOY. 🙂
Something that I am a proud member of is the Hallyu Wave fan community. I love watching Korean shows and listening to Korean music (not necessarily Kpop… that scene has tired me out a bit). Honestly though, I have moved past the fandom that still can be seen. Well… more like the obsession that can still be seen, but that’s a topic for a vlog, rant, or another blog.
To move on, let me tell you about my favorite go-to happy movie. This movie is in no way moving or inspirational in any way. It does star some big name stars like 김 하늘 (HaNeul Kim) and 장 근석 (GeunSeuk Jang) as the two leads and 강 하늘 (Ha-neul Kang), 류태준 (Ryu Tae-jun), FT Island’s leader 최종훈 (Jong Hoon Choi), and Rainbow’s 고우리 (Woo-ri Ko) as some of the supporting actors. The movie’s name? 너는 펫 (You’re My Pet) and it was released back in 2011. It’s a quirky romance movie with an interesting concept. It is the Korean version of a Japanese manga.
Brief Synopsis: 진 은이 (Jin Eun-Yi), a career woman has her younger brother’s older friend staying at her house who is also a dancer child prodigy. The only way he, 강 인호(Kang In-Ho) is allowed to stay is as a human pet named Momo. When her university 선배 (senior) comes back in hopes of making her his wife, she realizes that even though he was perfect for her in every way she didn’t love him anymore. (DUN DUN DUN~~~)
There are a couple of things that I like about this movie that I think a lot of women in my generation would love about Eun-Yi’s character. First of all, is the fact that this woman is freaking successful! Though she has had a rough past with love and men, she is still rocking her magazine’s socks. Who wouldn’t want to be an independent successful woman with her own amazing place? Second, she doesn’t take bull from anyone (except her annoying editor in chief). Third, she has amazing fashion sense – but who doesn’t think that of any Korean movie/drama? And fourth, she acts the way only most of us would only dream of acting like and by that I mean honest and in your face- I’m personally very introverted though I’m extremely opinionated, but 99% of the time I don’t really act on it or am otherwise extremely passive-aggressive about it.
Both lead actors give a very amusing performance in this movie and you get drawn in by how well they actually fit their roles. 장 근석 (GeunSeuk Jang) seems to have a knack for this role considering his personality is quirky and he just seems like the oddball who would agree to being a pet. 김 하늘 (HaNeul Kim) has the greatest Diva air to her that you could imagine would fit this role (though I’m sure in reality she isn’t a complete diva).
The song that I’m most obsessed with in this ost (soundtrack) is Hey Girl by Andrew Nelson. It’s an upbeat song that describes the feelings of loving a girl and being a slave to her (much like 장 근석’s (GeunSeuk Jang character is to 김 하늘’s (HaNeul Kim) character). Here, I’ll leave the lyrics to the song, a link to the song, and the translation to the lyrics. 🙂
